New Zealand reggae n tings band, The Black Seeds have just announced a pre-order offer for their 'Specials' remix album, featuring remixes from Jstar, Truth and Downtown Brown..... We thought we'd let you all know first.....
Currently getting mad love on soundcloud, check this Jstar and MC Honey Brown live session (downloadable!) from Vienna's Planetarium Club, 'roomservice' from back in July 2010 - when the sun was still shining across European skies.....
The badman that is Benny Page has just sent us his latest remix - an official rework of the dancehall hit that just keeps coming back for more - "Hold Yuh" by Gyptian. Versioned, revoiced and remixed beyond the pale, but alongside Digital Soundboy head-honcho Shy-FX he's delivered an absolute banger of a remix that is sure to extend the shelf-life of the tune even more! No DLs for now, just the radio rip video above we're afraid, but with other remixes by Toddla T also doing the rounds, it's gonna be a while til yuh get this outta ya head...

Check out our bwoy Jstar holding things down for the Major Lazer crew whilst on tour in Norway for Radio Maliboomboom. Not only is he a badman DJ and producer, but he also finds time to run around looking after Diplo and the whole set on their adventures around Europe and beyond. We've heard a few stories from life on the road, so maybe J will let off with his own celebrity gossip channel soon...watch this space!
another nice compilation from toronto. 2 crazy mentall productions- the compilation vol. 2 was released on double vinyl in '97. goody here– you can also find "elixir" by abdominal, which was featured on his cassette only debut release one year later. i'm not sure if there was also a volume 1. maybe you guys know more?!
i've also seen a 12" from the same label from around '97/'98, plus there are at least 2 more 12"'s from 2000.
Another free tune for y'all and yes, it's another jack of a DJ Zinc beat. I can't get enough of the man's productions at the moment and saw him recently smash it at Bestival, so thought I'd get busy with another smash-up of my own. I've been playing "Bounce Up" for a while now and always thought it would drop harder with a vocal, so I blagged the acapella for Max Sedgley's new single "Soundboy" on Jalapeno Records, featuring London rudegal Tor Cesay and gave it a spin. The result is predictably "Soundboy Bounce"...
The new album from Prince Fatty has just landed at NICE UP! HQ and we're pleased to say it's another corker! Featuring the singles "Insane In The Brain" and "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" amongst plenty of other goodness and appearances from Winston Francis, Little Roy and Natty amongst others. Keep your eyes peeled a competitions for your chance to win a copy up here soon!
They're also playing live next month in Brixton, so make sure you catch that. In the meantime, cop this free download of an older track and peep this rather special mash-up by Brum blendmaster Sam Redmore.
We're big fans of NYC based label BSTRD Boots here, so when we heard our man in New York (and BB head honcho) DJ DRM was putting a mix together purely consisting of tracks from the label we got a little bit excited... The mix dropped and it's wicked - it's been on heavy heavy rotation over here and my only complaint is that he didn't hook us up before the start of summer cos this mix would have been the perfect soundtrack to all our recent sun based shenanigans...
Yes yes, it's been a while but next month sees the return of NICE UP! as a monthly shindig, this time at Camden's legendary Jazz Cafe. As usual we'll be selecting the very finest guests to help us rock the joint, but we're keeping them under wraps for now. For the time being its residents Mikee Lazy, Mo Fingaz & Boba Fatt and myself dropping the hip hop, dubstep, drum and bass and dutty house to get the crowd moving. Kicking off on the 1st of October, you can buy tickets here.
We're big fans of Cherine Anderson here at NICE UP! - her Talk If Yuh Talking tune still gets plays over here, so we were mightily excited by news of a new album. We were even more vibed when we heard her voicing "Ring The Alarm" on the classic Stalag 17 riddim. There's only a 160kbps doing the rounds at the moment, so hit it up below and keep em peeled for the full release. Absolutely massive in JA and hitting billboard in the States (with Michael Franti albeit), it's only a matter of time before she blows up over in Europe.
Jstar calling! Finally made it back from Outlook Festival in Croatia where, alongside Nice Up Soundsystem selectah DJ Shepdog, and MC Honey Brown we rocked 2 awesome dubstep, DnB and Reggae heavyweight sets!
We met up heaps of wicked artists out there! mad props and blessings for linking me up to make this remix of 'Bad Man Sound' by Capitol 1212 featuring classic UK vocalizer, Tenor Fly, who needs no intoduction, and who we finally got to meet ....I got the old fiddle out and knocked up a little duborchestrasounds....old school soulboy jungleraver Austin Reynolds came and engineered the mix!!! Release on digital next month from Capitol 1212... The pic is of the smallest BADMANSOUNDMOBILE u ever saw! (thanks to Erik in Amstrdm) Don man sound ft Tenor Fly - JSTAR remix by Jstar
here we go with our first remix package from france!
sp.cifyk sent me over these joints, which were made in '04. all tracks are produced by him except for the common remix, which is by dee wax.
spcifyk dj /producer from the south val de marne area (bonneuil sur marne). my passion for hip hop began in the early 80's by practicing dancing such as smurf and breakdance. then in the 90's i started doing graffiti for various projects.
after collecting records and lots of hip hop magazines i decided to buy some equipment and to build my own home studio in '96.
my influences are dj premier, dj spinna, large pro, pete rock, the uhmma, lord finesse, buckwild, the beatminerz, etc. but of course also other genres are very important in my beatmaking life. soul, funk, jazz and jazz rock to salsa, bossa nova, movie soundtracks to more obscure styles of music. [sp.cifyk]
you can find him on myspace or check his excellent album «city talk» with guestrappers, which he had released earlier this year.
