Star, Daily News & Gleaner

It's only a few hours since my last post and the Ethels giving us Pommies a proper drubbing and the newspapers are really lapping it up - not suprising really considering how shit we were. Anyway, trying to keep a theme going, I'm going to swerve the UK tabloids and instead go back to JA and the man who's "six feet six tall" and post up this badboy...read it and weep!

Biddy Bong Bong Geng Geng Geng

Always one of my favourites and the creator of the 'singjay' style, as well as having some of the most obscure, off-the-wall, often meaningless but always crucial lyrics, the man like Ripton Joseph Hilton was a true pioneer and is criminally overlooked by most. The original old dirty bastard - no father to his style whatsoever - is here seen owning centre stage at Reggae Sunsplash in '81. I'm not sure why most of the crowd and backstage crew look disengaged - to be honest if I wasn't just 4 at the time I'd have been up front shockin' out. Ladies and gentlemen...man like Eek-A-Mouse.

VIVA THE VUVUZELA!

We just got word from Mr Benn on a new riddim he's just knocked up to play at all those world cup parties - go get involved...

"Love them or hate them, you can't ignore them - the king size rave horns known as vuvuzelas are a massive part of this years world cup finals. I personally think they're great, and would quite happily take one with me to all my DJ gigs. So, yesterday I snapped one up from my local vuvuzela outlet and knocked up this riddim as a tribute..... HOOOOOONNNNNNKKKKK!"

It's available for download on his soundcloud page here:

Crucial We Crucial

We've just had word from Israeli dubstep/reggae producer Kalbata, telling us about some very exciting new releases in the pipeline, as well as his new 12" on Soul Jazz - the sublime "Sugar Plum Plum"(recorded with live musicians in JA no less!). We're big fans of his output over here at NICE UP! so urge you to go out and buy the vinyl and support this artist. As a special treat we're giving out his 80's dancehall and reggae mix "Crucial We Crucial", featuring essential tunes from the likes of Early B, Conroy Smith and Frankie Paul. And just check the old school inspired artwork - brilliant!!
