New single - out today!

It's been a long time coming, but our latest single has just hit the shelves! We decided a while back to move the label into more legal territory (don't worry, we'll still be furnishing you with the finest mash-ups via the blog!) so alongside releases from The Nextmen and Adam Prescott, Black Samurai joins the roster. With remixes from Benny Page, The Heavy and Jstar it's been getting plenty of love on the airwaves from Rob Da Bank, Mary Anne Hobbs, Don Letts, Ross Allen aswell as DJs all over the globe, so you can now grab the 12" too!

Available from Juno, Piccadilly, Chemical, Phonica, Rough Trade and many others (as well as our own webshop HERE).

96 Selecta

We've been posting a lot of mixes and other news recently, so it's time to get back to what this blog is all about - free music! We recently spotted our friend Warrior One had posted his Pow 1996 Mashup for download, so we contacted him with this version which finds Mz Bratt's "Selecta" on top of his massive "1996 Riddim". Luckily he was feeling it, so here it is for download. Big shout to Black Butter records!

The Nextmen Podcast

We're big fans of The Nextmen over here at NICE UP! - so much so that we've been nagging them for a follow up to the fantastic "Sofa" for about a year...looks like we'll have to do with their ever-popular podcast for the time being. Big up to Brad & Dom for spinning the Benny Page remix of our new single this month, and you can also grab a free download of one of their remixes too!

Mr Benn inna di jungle...

A few years ago I decided to make a good friend of mine a Jungle mix for his birthday, I had a lot of fun trawling through all my old jungle vinyl – a lot of this stuff has had a massive influence on the music I make today. The hardest part was selecting what to include as it needed to be roughly an hour long so there were tonnes of wicked tunes that I had to leave out. So, here it is, a one take mix of purely vinyl mostly from ’94-’96.... LIIIIIIIGHTAHHHH!

Here's the tracklist:
01. The Dream Team – Rollin Raw (Joker Records)
02. Tenor Fly meets Congo Natty – Jah Sunshine (Congo Natty)
03. More Rockers – Gimme More Rockers (More Rockers)
04. Frankie Paul – My Sound Jungle (Jet Star Records)
05. Prizna – Dan Man ft. The Ragga Twins (K.U.S.)
06. Remarc – R.I.P. (Suburban Base)
07. Various - Jungle Sax (Saxon Records)
08. Unknown Artist - One Scratch Rasta (SBP Records)
09. DJ Food – Scratch Yer Head (Squarepusher remix) (Ninja Tune)
10. Rudebwoy Monty – Warp 9 Mr Zulu (Frontline Records)
11. Urban Shakedown - Some Justice 95 (Full Vocal Mix)
12. Rebel MC ft. Top Cat – Champion DJ (Congo Natty)
13. Dead dred – Dred bass (Moving Shadow)
14. DJ Krome & Mr Time – Ganjaman (remix) (Tearing Vinyl)
15. Redrose & Tony Rebel - Gun Talk (Jungle mix) (Greensleeves)
16. Conquering Lion ft. Beenie Man – Rastaman (Congo Natty)
17. Remarc - Sound Murderer (Loafin’ in Brockley remix) (Suburban Base)
18. DJ Krome & Mr Time - Liscence (remix) (Tearin Vinyl)
19. DJ Vern & DJ Ash – Squeeze (Tearin Vinyl)
20. Unknown – Vampire (White Label)
21. Unknown – Dubplate Pressure (White Label)
22. Amazon II – Booyaaa! (open your mind) (Aphrodite Recordings)
23. The Dream Team – Stamina (Suburban Base)
24. T-Power – Tranquility (S.O.U.R.)
25. Barrington Levy & Beenie Man - Under Mi Sensi (Jungle Spliff) (X Project Remix)

Mr Benn Live at Shambala

Shambala Festival is definately one of my favourite festivals - not too big, not a corporate sponsor in sight and full of the most open minded and up for it crowds you'll find anywhere. If you've never been, I urge you to check it out and get down there next year www.shambalafestival.org
I was lucky enough to play in the Kamikaze Tent on the Sunday night this year and it was ten tonnes of fun. Here's the recording of my hour long set which is packed to the gills with Dancehall, reggae, mash ups, moombahton, disco, soca, bashment, dubstep and jungle. So, get on the DL and crank it up loud and then get online and buy a ticket for next years event!

Chase & Skank

We've been a little bit quiet on the blog recently as we've been very busy with the relaunch of a new website, new blog and a brand new NICE UP! release, so keep your eyes peeled for that! In the meantime check this tasty blend from a couple of artists known only as Hardly Subtle, throwing "Time" by Chase & Status over the classic "Love I Can Feel" riddim with some added DnB licks. Hardly subtle, but very nice!
